Stoney Creek - 2016
Various stages of bank erosion and sloughing have occurred up and down stream of the pedestrian bridge. The riparian area in this section is relatively intact but has been impacted by historic development.
The banks on the outside edge of the stream bend (South side) were armoured against erosion both upstream and downstream of the bridge site. This was completed using Rip Rap and LWD, which now enhances the habitat diversity of the stream and provide additional cover for fish.
An upstream V-weir was also installed above the bridge to direct some flow away from the already eroded banks, oxygenate water by a riffle effect, and scour and clean downstream gravels, providing potential spawning habitat for fish.
Willow whips were also planted along the banks of the project site create habitat and assist with bank stabilization.
